ICS - Incident Command System

Program Description: As an independent, corporate or association planner you should ask yourself one risk management question, “Do I have an appropriate crisis management plan for this meeting?”  The Incident Command System (ICS) is a process for managing the effects of all types of crises.  This universal crisis managing tool minimizes time and chaos, individualism, injury and damage, prolongation of incident, while maximizing a manageable span of control, communications, resource capabilities, facilities, and expenses amongst stake holders no matter if you're dealing with the wrath of Mother Nature, health issues, terrorism, transportation curtailment, civil disorder or bomb threats.  As an advanced planner, if you aren’t properly prepared for any of these uninvited guests it’s easy to become part of the problem.

After attending this session, you will be able to:

  • State standard definitions for this universal tool.
  • Identify a process flow chart that is used for proper data collection.
  • Acquire a checklist that includes standard questions to help you properly address your one risk management question.

“The speaker and topic are part of MPI's Platinum Program Series."

Speaker: Joanne Corby is an educator. She holds a Masters degree in Human Resource Development and Public Administration. She's spent twenty-years in the healthcare industry educating all-levels of learners, before venturing out on her own.

She founded U Expansion, Inc., an accredited full service corporate education company in April of 2002.  It is her business to optimize yours by circulating her knowledge and experiences to the meetings, healthcare, human resources, education and public sector markets.  Her extensive involvement with the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET) as an auditing commissioner and advisory to the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), lends creditability to her advocacy for quality education.

Joanne believes the best way to get a return is to give one.  She serves as a board member for the Ascension School Board, the Arc of Brevard, and the Community Action Board.  She’s written several articles for the Meeting Professional and to multiple trade publications.

Joanne’s philosophy is to always be prepared for the unexpected; her personal and professional disasters have contributed to that.  Audiences gain as much from Joanne’s stories as she enjoys telling them.  The bottom line is: self-awareness, preparation and a rewarding balance equals success.  More information can be found at uexpansion.com.
