MPI-WI December Event & Chapter Fundraiser
December 10, 2009

Special Weather Note:

We are monitoring current weather and road conditions and at this point are moving forward with our December Holiday Event plans. With an anticipated snow ending time of Wednesday afternoon and a late afternoon program start on Thursday, we are hopeful that road crews will have highways clear and safe as your travel begins. We are mindful that gusting winds may become the greater hazard and will monitor road conditions Wednesday into Thursday. Please refer to the MPI-WI website homepage for the latest updates and possible schedule changes.

Mr. Big's Casino & Carrot Club

It's the roaring 20's, and you're invited to the Grand Re-opening of Chicago's favorite speakeasy, MISTER BIG'S "Carrot Club" and Casino.  The club has been closed down since the tragic murder last St. Valentine's Day.

For tonight's re-opening, the casino will be rolling, the bathtub gin will be flowing & the Charleston will be the rage as all the gangland's favorite mobsters & movie stars, flappers & floozies, gun-molls & gamblers, chorus girls & coppers will be attending...

As you arrive at the Alley Entranceway & knock for admittance, you must know the secret password which you will know if you are a Carrot Club card holder.  As you enter the speakeasy, Madam Trixie Hottatrot, Mister Big's sister will be handing out gaming chips with a $1000 -2000 limit for gaming at the vaiety of casino games that await you.

We appreciate all of your assistance with sponsorship and your participation in fund raising!  All the the proceeds we raise will help our education effort within MPI-WI.   This is your opportunity to show your support to the meeting industry.  Click here for the sponsor form.

The Carrot Principle

Chris Kendrick
Chris Kendrick

Got carrotphobia? Do you think that recognizing your employees will distract you and your team from more serious business, create jealousy, or make you look soft? Think again.

The Carrot Principle reveals the groundbreaking results of one of the most in-depth management studies ever undertaken, showing definitively that the central characteristic of the most successful managers is that they provide their employees with frequent and effective recognition. With independent research from The Jackson Organization and analysis by bestselling leadership experts Adrian Gostick and Chester Elton, this breakthrough study of 200,000 people over ten years found dramatically greater business results when managers offered constructive praise and meaningful rewards in ways that powerfully motivated employees to excel.

Drawing on case studies from leading companies including Disney, DHL, KPMG, and Pepsi Bottling Group, bestselling authors Gostick and Elton show how the transformative power of purpose-based recognition produces astonishing increases in operating results -- whether measured by return on equity, return on assets, or operating margin. And they show how great managers lead with carrots, not sticks, and in doing so achieve higher:

  • Productivity
  • Engagement
  • Retention
  • Customer satisfaction

The Carrot Principle illustrates that the relationship between recognition and improved business results is highly predictable -- it's proven to work. But it's not the employee recognition some of us have been using for years. It is recognition done right, recognition combined with four other core traits of effective leadership.

Gostick and Elton explain the remarkably simple but powerful methods great leaders can use to provide their employees with effective recognition, which all leaders can easily learn and begin practicing for immediate results.
