We’ve seen attacks on New York, the Pentagon and around the world; hurricanes have devastated areas of the US as has massive flooding and drought. Food borne illnesses and reactions to food that may have been “cross-contaminated” have become more common. At meetings, the unimaginable happens along with the “paper cuts” (lost shipments, speaker cancellations, running out of food). Yet planners and their venue and vendor partners are unprepared for emergencies and simple contingencies. What are we waiting for? Why do we continue to believe that “it” won’t happen to our meeting? at “that” facility”? What keeps us from preparing for contingencies? As “Katrina General”, Lt. Gen. Russel Honoré (US Army ret.) said: “We must create a culture of preparedness. We have to get to the ‘left’ side of an emergency.”

Speaker Bio:
Joan Eisenstodt founded Eisenstodt Associates, a Washington, DC-based meeting and hospitality consulting, training and facilitation company in 1981. She brings 35+ years experience to her work with corporations, associations, hotel companies and DMOs, to facilitate and design meetings, conduct training, perform departmental audits, negotiate contracts and serve as an expert witness.

Active in MPI, PCMA, ASAE, HSMAI, DMAI and other industry and non-industry organizations, Joan's passions for life-long learning, meeting preparation, risk anticipation and contingency planning, ethical and inclusivity practices, and meeting excellence have been well-recognized by MPI, HSMAI, IACC, and NSA; as an inductee into the CIC Hall of Leaders, and by the PCMA Foundation for Lifetime Achievement as an Educator. Joan is a past-president of PMPI and a former Board member of MPI. She is the Chair of the ASAE Ethics Committee, moderator at www.meetingsfocusforum.com and blogs at www.meetingsfocus.com.

Fox Cities Diaper Bank

The Fox Cities Diaper Bank was founded in 2010 after research by the United Way Fox Cities found that many low income families struggle to afford disposable diapers.  The average expense for a month of diapers can run more than $75 and often families have to choose between other basic needs and providing these necessary supplies required by most child care facilities.  Furthering the need is the fact that government supported programs, such as food stamps, only provide for food and nutrition and do not allow the purchase of diapers. 

As a result, the Fox Cities have come together to help combat this real problems close to home and the MPI-WI members are invited to help!  At the April 19 Education Meeting we will be collecting diaper donations.  As an added bonus Kimberly Clark will match 1:1 the amount collected, so bring what you can because your donation will actually be doubled!  Any size or type of diaper is appreciated.  Also during the April meeting we will be donating our time by helping repackage a supply of diapers for the bank.  All diapers are repackaged into groups of 25 and then given out to needy families at local pantries and other non-profit support organizations.  We look forward to seeing you there!
