Session overview:

The US Census Bureau estimates that 1 in 5 Americans has a disability. This has major implications for individuals who are involved in planning events and activities which are open to the public. The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 requires that all programs and services operated by places of public accommodations be readily accessible to and useable by people with disabilities. This includes physical as well as communication access. With advance planning, the needs of people with disabilities can be taken into consideration when choosing the venue, planning the logistics including how the meeting sites are chosen and arranged, how food is served and what considerations need to be included for ensuring that all communication is accessible. This session will discuss the “why’s” and “how’s” of making meetings accessible as well as available resources.
