You are invited to join us for the 3rd annual Meet Wisconsin education day and meetings industry marketplace on Thursday, October 7, 2004, in the Exhibition Hall at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison.

This year’s Meet Wisconsin will provide a unique opportunity to hear a special presentation by invited Guest Speaker, Lt. Governor Barbara Lawton, along with a stimulating lineup of industry education brought to you by some of the top Wisconsin speakers. More that 100 vendors will participate in the Meetings Industry MarketPlace presenting the latest in lodging, convention facilities, decorating and exposition services.

Meet Wisconsin is presented by a number of organizations that share the same goal of sustaining a strong meetings industry in Wisconsin, an industry that plays an increasingly important role in Wisconsin’s economy. The blending of several events into one allows us to present a wealth of information that is essential to doing business is today’s economy.

Meeting Professionals International - Wisconsin Chapter is combining their October education day along with the Greater Madisons Convention & Visitors Bureau’s Meetings Industry MarketPlace. Additional partners, the National Speakers Association - Wisconsin, the Wisconsin Association of Convention & Visitors Bureaus and the Wisconsin Department of Tourism have joined forces to provide services, promotion and a united team spirit.

Maritz McGettigan The days of contracts for services being reviewed, signed, and returned quickly are diminishing. Not only are medical associations quickly realizing the effects of the Sarbanes- Oxley Act but many planners and suppliers are quickly realizing the impact on procurement cycles. Learn strategies you can put in place to articulate ROI to procurement departments, and keep the procurement cycle at a healthy pace.
3) The 7 Basics of Profitable Fundraising Programs - Paul Rux, Ph.D.
Learn seven key tasks to create profitable fundraising programs: planning, feasibility studies, donor relations, volunteers, marketing campaigns, and planned giving.
4) Brand U - Bill Geist
Positioning oneself in the marketplace can be a veritable tight-rope walk. Too little promotion and you go unnoticed…too much and you look like an egotist. Learn tips and tactics on how to position and brand yourself as the person that everybody wants to know and employ!
5) US Foreign Policy: Terrorism and Security of the Homeland. Does it Effect You and Your Business - Lamont Colucci
September 11th and its aftermath? How have the changes since September 11th continue to dominate our personal and business lives? Answers to these questions, and strategies for staying ahead of the curve on terrorism and homeland security as it pertains to the meeting industry will be presented in this thought-provoking program.

In this session we will identify your personal motivational forces and discover how to identify others. You’ll understand the source of your frustration, and leave this session with tools to use right away to work smarter, not harder.
7) Strategic Planning: Mapping Your Future - John Vardallas
This session will guide leaders through the strategic planning process by covering key components for back home use. Areas covered will include e-scanning, mission/vision of the organization, conducting a (SCOT) strengths, challenges, opportunities, threats analysis, goal setting, identifying competitive advantages, growth strategies, and becoming a “member/customer centric” organization.
8) It’s Not My Problem: Turning Negative Conflict Into an Asset - Kari Potter, and Cassy Barbic (Speakers supplied by American Society of Training and Development, South Central Chapter.)
Conflicts affecting employee and organizational health arise from the diversification of the workforce, the accelerating pace of the work environment, the state of the economy, miscommunication, misunderstandings, and increasing stress. In this session, learn a tool that can diffuse and prevent those difficult situations.
9) Technology Trends for Today’s Conferences - Presented by Wayport, Inc.
This session will offer insight into today’s newest technology trends for meetings such as hosting “cybercafe’s”, presentations with active weblinks, web casting (streaming video/audio), and making sure you have secured access to sensitive corporate data while on the road. -Presented by Wayport, Inc.
10) Facilitation Skills: Working Together - Chris Clarke-Epstein
Nothing is more painful than a meeting that doesn’t produce meaningful results. Usually these meetings are missing a key success ingredient – facilitation. Individuals who develop bacis facilitation skills make better, more creative decisions, use time more wisely, and develop a reputation for success.

Since becoming the first woman elected to the state's second-highest position, Lt. Governor Barbara Lawton has made a commitment to integrity in government, and to public policy to promote economic growth that holds the promise of prosperity for all of Wisconsin's citizens. Lt. Governor Lawton, along with a task force of prominent leaders from around the state, is dedicated to Raising the Grade for Wisconsin Women. Under her leadership, the emphasis has been placed on women's health, economic sufficiency, increasing educational awareness and encouraging leadership and political participation.
